Mexico holds a very special place in my heart because it was a journey that birthed many new beginnings for me. After months of hearing this ringing message that I first heard while meditating in my room saying, “Your heart is in Mexico” I finally decided to cave in. After I decided to open up and listen to what my heart had been trying to tell me, I asked, what part of Mexico is my heart in? I intuitively gathered that it would be a city with the name beginning with P in the Yucatan peninsula region. So, I opened up my map and instantly found where my heart was leading me, Progreso.

Why is Progreso, a lesser-known beach town in Mexico, worth exploring before it becomes more popular?

Progreso is a really beautiful, small, and laid back beach town that has a really charming energy to it. As it has the longest pier in the world named Puerto Progreso, it can get very busy and touristy when the cruise ships come in. Though it isn’t as popular as other famous beach destinations like Cancun or Tulum, when the coast is clear from the swarm of tourists, it is a very tranquil and loving place. With the new developments and construction going on, I’d highly recommend exploring this lovely town before it becomes well known. I stayed there for a period of 4 days and I’d like to share some things that I did..

What to do?

Progreso is perfectly located around many historical and beautiful cities and landmarks. While visiting you should definitely check out these places:

Located just blocks away from the town of Progreso, Chicxulub, is the place where a meteorwas believed to have hit approximately 65-66 million years ago that led to the extinction of 75% of life on earth including the dinosaurs. You can visit the museum located in Progreso called Museo del Meteorito, Gran Museo Del Mundo Maya.
